Challenge

Being a security dealer working with products from various manufacturers is a daunting task. After all, they must satisfy varying customer requirements based on the products they recommend and install.

When Arthur VanZant, owner of SKT Security, Inc. needed to find a solution for his customer, the Oklahoma Heart Hospital, he knew it had to work, and work well. The customer had previously installed a biometric system that failed due to a variety of reasons including sensor problems, system communications, software issues, faulty customer support, and upward capacity. As such, VanZant recognized the importance of installing a product that would overcome all of these challenges as well as satisfy their overall performance and reliability access control needs. Biometrics was requested as users did not like using cards.

Results

One of the key requirements was being able to integrate the recommended product with a SQL database and communicate with modern TCP/IP architecture. Further, it was essential that management and administration would be able to be performed from any location connected to the network, and new buildings across town must be able to be tied into the system. As such, expansion of capacity and access points had to be easily performed. After research and testing various products, VanZant recommended Integrated Biometrics TRU650 system to his customer.

The Hospital initially purchased and installed 42 terminals, a process which began in May 2008. In October of that year, 18 additional terminals were purchased and installed and a third purchase and installation is already scheduled for a building with an anticipated construction completion in 2009. Technical support was instrumental in the integration of the software with the customer’s existing SQL database server. According to VanZant, the Hospital commented on how knowledgeable the technician was that assisted them with the software configuration. To date, SKT has not needed to use the technical support capabilities of Integrated Biometrics because, VanZant stated, "it just works!"
